Co-created with Marc Rees for
National Theatre Wales/BBC
'What Laugharne really needs is a play about well-known Laugharne characters – and get them all to play themselves.'
Dylan Thomas
A star-studded, multi-platform, site-specific reimagining of Thomas’s Under Milk Wood, featuring theatrical installations across the town of Laugharne, and pre-recorded performances from some of Wales’s best-known actors and singers.
'In its willingness to experiment, to ignore both the false wisdom of convention and the fabricated heaviness of expectation, and to challenge the po-faced dictators of popular taste, it was an unqualified success.'

'This experience will take you on a journey through Laugharne – the place that inspired Under Milk Wood, and 'the strangest town in Wales' according to Dylan Thomas. Each year, the amateur dramatic company of the town, The Laugharne Players, re-enact Thomas’s famous play. But often their daily lives are as extraordinary as any of Thomas’s tales, and if you ask them about the past, they’ll tell you stories of murder, madness and mayhem. This site is a digital reimagining of a collaboration between National Theatre Wales and BBC Cymru Wales: Raw Material: Llareggub Revisited. The event happened in May 2014 and was part of the Dylan Thomas Poetry, Biography And Film Weekend, itself a part of the extended Laugharne Literature Festival and the Dylan Thomas 100 Festival, a year-long celebration of the writer’s centenary.'
Funded by Arts Council Wales and The Space, based on a collaboration between BBC Cymru Wales and National Theatre Wales.

I am aware of several attempts to update Under Milk Wood and this comes closest to capturing the original's eccentricity and clotted musicality.
